Shaped out of the state of Uttar Pradesh in North India, the state of Uttaranchal, also known as Dev Bhoomi meaning the land of Gods, is sure to leave you mesmerized with its innate beauty and luster. The place is a paradise for all whether an adventure seeker, a naturalist or in quest of religion. The state contains a diversity of flora and fauna and is home to some of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites in the country including the char dhams - Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath - and the Sikh pilgrimage of Hemkunt sahib. Some of the highest peaks of the Himalayas including Nanda Devi, Sri Kailash and Yogeshwar are situated here which contribute to the region's charm all the more.

 

How to Reach Haridwar

Air Transportation

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Bhaniawala, Dehradun, which is situated at a distance 35/ 41 km from Haridwar. Though there are not many airlines that run between New Delhi and Dehradun,except several regular flights like Deccan flight, which plies on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Recently , the state contains 64 helipads, of which 40 are controlled by the state government, while the others are under the control of the Indo Tibetian Border Police Force (ITBP). But notably, of the 40 state-owned helipads, 15 are still under construction.

Road Transportation

Haridwar is one of the most easily accessible cities. It is situated on National highway number 45. As Haridwar is on National Highway (N.H.) 58 (Delhi-Haridwar) as well as on N.H. 72 (Haridwar-H.P.Border) and N.H. 74 (Haridwar –Sitarganj up to U.P.border). The excellent roadway and road transport network connect Haridwar to and from all major cities and towns of Uttaranchal and north India by bus services offered by the UP Roadways and transport corporations of other states. Private bus operators and taxis are also available. There are both facilities of state run buses from some major cities,Private bus operators, taxis, travellers own conveyance. RailTransportation

Haridwar has a railhead of its own.Haridwar railway station is situated in the main city and it is well interlinked to major Indian cities Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Indore, Jaipur, Delhi, Amritsar,Ahmedabad Lucknow,Varanasi by regular trains.Haridwar is connected to Rishikesh by local trains.
There are a number of fast trains available for reaching Haridwar from New Delhi, with the ones to Dehradun also making a halt here.This trains connect Haridwar to New Delhi( Rajdhani and Shatabdi expresses takes only 4-5 hours from New Delhi).
